Welcome.
Hello and welcome to my new blog, Only Enough.
If any of you already know my work at From the Mouth of a Prophet, you'll understand why I wanted to start this new writing venture.
I should probably tell you why the idea for a minimalist blog intrigued me in the first place. So here goes.
Have you ever stumbled upon something, a book, movie, type of food, that changed your life in in several ways for the better? That's how it was with me and minimalism. I can't remember the exact date or time, but somehow I fell into the Google/Pinterest trap and began researching the movement. As I read and considered the things the minimalist blogs were discussing such as decluttering, only consuming and using what you need, a happier home, etc, I really began to think of how these practices could benefit myself and my own family.
My first priority in implementing minimalism in my life was to declutter and radically change my bedroom to gain more space and not be suffocated under STUFF. Yes, you read that right. I was suffocating under junk in my own home. The funny thing was, I didn't even realize it until I began this minimalist journey! As time progressed and I began cleaning out unneeded clutter and a huge amount of items from my bedroom, I realized how much I had packed (tightly) into such a small space. I began to feel like a pack rat or a squirrel who was collecting nuts for the winter.
As I read and studied the principles that make up the minimalist lifestyle, my brain shifted in a big way. My mind could not, and would not rest until I had gotten rid of over half the items that were shoved into corners, filling drawers, and hanging in my overstuffed closet.
It wasn't until I started pulling items out of these spaces that I realized I was on the road to being a hoarder. I don't have a psychological illness, but my own home was beginning to look like I did because of everything I kept over the years.
The more I cleaned out, the more I wanted to keep going. This journey began almost a year ago, and I am still getting rid of unwanted items to make room for empty space to just breathe.
More on the blessing of empty space later ;)
In starting this blog, I am going to explore the minimalist practices that I myself have implemented, because eventually I would like to coach people in this lifestyle. I have a feeling (and have heard from many friends and family) that in the crazy, full lives we live, this kind of teaching is needed.
Thanks for staying beside me on this journey. I hope the lessons I've learned will help you make your home a happier place, and that you will learn that only enough, is ENOUGH.
